dpa-AFX: Eurozone Business Climate Data Expected On Thursday

MADRID (dpa-AFX) - Data on business climate in the eurozone and preliminary German consumer price inflation are some of the notable economic data scheduled for Thursday. At 5 am ET, the European commission will release the results of its business climate survey for the eurozone. The business climate index is estimated to edge down to 0.1 in August from 0.17 in July. The consumer sentiment index is expected to remain unchanged at -10. The economic sentiment index is forecast to drop to 101.5 in August from 102.2. The industrial sentiment index is expected to decrease to -4.5 from -3.8 in July. At 2 am ET, German statistical office Destatis is due to release its unemployment report for July. In June, the jobless rate was at 5.1 percent. At 3 am ET, Spain's statistical office INE is scheduled to release its preliminary consumer prices and final gross domestic product, or GDP, reports. Consumer prices are expected to fall 0.6 percent year-over-year in August following the 0.3 percent decline in July. The harmonised index of consumer prices, or HICP, is estimated to fall 0.6 percent year-on-year, after the 0.4 percent drop in July. The statistical agency is expected to confirm the preliminary estimates, which called for 1.2 percent year-over-year and 0.6 percent quarter-over-quarter growth for the second quarter. Around the same time, Hungary's central statistical office is due to release its producer prices report. Producer prices are expected to decline at the stable rate of 0.6 percent year-over-year in July. Also around the same time, the Turkish Statistical Institute will release its consumer confidence report for August. In July, the consumer confidence index was at 73.9. At 3:30 am ET, Statistics Sweden is scheduled to release its retail sales report. Retail sales are expected to increase 4.3 percent year-over-year in Jul following the 3.3 percent rise in June. On a month-over-month basis, retail sales are estimated to grow 0.4 percent, slower than the 0.5 percent increase in June. Around 25 minutes later, the Federal Labor Agency will release its unemployment report for Germany. The jobless rate is expected to remain at 6.7 percent in August. The number of unemployed people is estimated to fall by 5,000 in August, after dropping by 12,000 in the previous month. At 4 am ET, the European Central Bank will release its money supply data. The M3 money supply is expected to grow at the stable rate of 1.5 percent year-over-year in July. In the three months ended July, M3 money supply is forecast to rise 1.3 percent following the 1.1 percent increase in the preceding three months. Around the same time, Italy's statistical institute ISTAT is due to release its retail sales report. Retail sales are expected to fall at a faster rate of 0.6 percent year-over-year in June, after dropping 0.5 percent in May. On a sequential basis, retail sales are forecast to fall 0.5 percent following the 0.7 percent decrease in May. At 5 am ET, Italy's statistical office ISTAT is due to release its business sentiment report. The ISAE business confidence index is estimated to decrease to 99.2 in August from 99.7 in July. At 6 am ET, the Confederation of British Industry will release the results of its distributive trade survey. The retail sales balance is forecast to improve notably to 27 in August from 21 in July. Around the same time, ISTAT is scheduled to release its hourly wages report for July. In June, hourly wages rose 1.2 percent year-over-year and 0.1 percent month-over-month. At 8 am ET, Destatis is due to release its preliminary consumer prices report. Consumer prices and the harmonized index of consumer prices are expected to grow 0.8 percent year-over-year in August, the same rate as in July. On a month-over-month basis, consumer prices and the HICP are estimated to remain unchanged, after rising 0.3 percent in July. At 7:30 am ET, Swiss National Bank's Jean-Pierre Danthine is scheduled to speak in Lugano. Around 30 minutes later, Polish governor Marek Belka is expected to give keynotes in Austria. A meeting of European Union's general affairs minsters in Italy is also due today. Also, European Union's José Manuel Barroso, Guenther Oettinger and ¦tefan Füle are expected to attend the conference in Berlin.
